>help me out with some typical consist in the 1967-68 timeframe please?
Here is a 22-car consist leaving St. Paul westbound on July 15 1968
from John Strauss, "Rocky's Robe of Many Colors":
Two SPD 45s
RPO-storage mail
Storage mail
Storage mail
Baggage-dorm
Flat-top coach
Dome coach
Dome coach
Ranch car
Flat-top day-nite coach
Flat-top day-nite coach
Dome coach
Dome lounge
Diner
Pass sleeper
River sleeper
Pass sleeper
Pass sleeper
CB&Q Silver Basin sleeper
CB&Q Silver Swan sleeper
Diner (Lake Pepin, so GN)
CB&Q Silver Quail sleeper
CB&Q Silver Tower dome observation
The last five cars were a tour group to Glacier Park.
Strauss also gives a typical 1967-1969 summer consist (Chicago to
Seattle unless otherwise noted):
SPD45, SPD40, or Passenger F locos
RPO-storage mail St. Paul to Seattle (only to Williston in 1968-69)
Storage mail St. Paul to Spokane
Storage mail Chicago to Seattle
Baggage dorm
60-seat coach
Two dome coaches to Seattle
Ranch
Day-nite coach St. Paul to Seattle
Day-nite coach St. Paul to Portland
Dome coach to Portland
Dome lounge
Diner
6-5-2 sleeper to Seattle
7-6-1 sleeper to Seattle
6-5-2 sleeper St. Paul to Seattle
6-5-2 sleeper to Portland
For the winter consist, delete the day-nite coaches, both 6-5-2
sleepers to Seattle, and add a 16-4 sleeper Spokane to Seattle. Also
the second Seattle dome coach is listed after the Ranch car.
The main way in which these consists differ from those prior to 1962
are the addition of the day-nite coaches and deletion of a comparable
number of sleepers, including the Coulee observation car. (In 1962
they added the day-nite coaches for the Seattle World's Fair, and
deleted the sleepers a year or two later.) Also earlier consists were
in a slightly different order, with some sleepers in front of the
diner and other variations.
Strauss notes that in 1968 the GN started painting some cars in what
would become the BN Cascade Green, with the GN-Goat logo looking like
the Big Sky Blue logo. So you could legitimately mix some Cascade
Green cars into a 1968 consist if you replaced the BN logo with a GN
logo. A few pics of such cars on p. 162 of the book indicate that the
white band sometimes extended to the roof, but at least one car (a
coach) was painted in the hocky-stick style.
>Also, in case you are interested (and the Walthers website does not
>make this clear unless you really hunt), the EB cars will also be
>coming out in GN Big Sky Blue and BN.
Here is a complete list of Walthers' item numbers by car type and
paint (dates of availability may vary slightly for some paint jobs):

To find any of these on Walthers' web site, enter "932-XXXX" in the
search field, with XXXX being the number above.
For the baggage-mail cars, Walthers has a generic car in EB colors
that should be a close fit. It is item number 6801.
