Silver Rapids carried the Burlington and CZ equipment's full skirting into
Penn Central. I have a photo of the car in PC and the skirting is still in
place. Silver Rapids went into Amtrak. If the skirting was removed Amtrak
removed
it, however today Silver Rapids has the full skirting so perhaps Amtrak didn't
remove it.
I don't understand why BLI didn't use a different stock number for the new
release of Silver Rapids. The other thing I never understood was why all the
stainless steel equipment used by Seaboard, ACL, FEC, and PRR had black roofs.
Here are cars used in Florida service with black roofs. A buddy of mine who is
a
SPF, told me that the roofs weren't painted black, the roofs were coated with
an anti skid.
Funny how things happen..... I bought many years ago a Soho Pullman 10-5 to
use in my CZ in place of Silver Rapids which I also have in my consist, thus
over the years I now have a model of the Broadway Limited.
