Most of the passenger side of the Riverside facility (the tracks to the
North side of the main East of the station, down in the area where Damore
Concrete was.. was still in place in the fifties...at least two double ended
sidings if I recall properly.
There were tracks in place for a long time in the engine terminal side to
the South and West of the Station. The outline of the turntable pit might
have still been in place (or might still be...haven't been down there on my
bicycle since I was a kid and didn't poke around there, being more
interested in going down fast on the hill alongside the library...) A
stillborn Railroad Museum used one track during the 70's (they had the C&NW
"Pioneer" coach, a reefer, and some other equipment) but it was mostly kept
in place (I was going to say maintained but that would give the wrong
impression!!!) for MOW setouts.
Best I can tell Riverside as a terminus for commuter service was
discontinued by the time the new (present) station was built. The previous
station, while in the same general area, was a little smaller and allowed
the turnout leading to the engine terminal trackage to be located much
further East than the one that was in place during our memory.
