Ken has pipped me to the post on this one, but I can add that Dave's
original post referred to 14638 as per the photo in the Holbrook/Lorenz
Waycars book, page 75, although the number is not readable. There was a
suggestion that the number should be 14688 and that number appeared when the
list was later reproduced. It was unclear if both numbers were applicable or
whether it was a typo.
The NE class waycars (a.k.a. Widow Makers) also had side doors, but they
were converted in 1943-45 from boxcars built up to 1914, classes XM-12 to
XM-18.
