RE: Dayman,
This is a good size plant 10,000 acre as behind the chained link fence with 100
miles of track within. I relieved the agent ( R.C. Brown) there for a couple of
weeks in 65 if memory serves me. It was a busy place during Viet Nam, the
local's would drop off and pickup just inside the gates. The plant was self
sufficient in that it had its own shops (locomotive) probably had 6-8
switchers, its own track maintenance equipment, crane/derrick and so on. Was
its own shortline railroad.
As a side note one of the operators who worked BN (Burlington) wife worked at
the plant. One day there was an explosion there while he was working, he took
off in his Plymouth Barracuda drove to the plant ( 8-10 miles) didn't bother to
stop for the guards at the gate and went looking for his wife. Fortunately it
didn't happen in her area and that his car didn't end up full of bullet holes.
