FWIW the reefers moving east (not all) had salt added to the ice to keep 
it/make it colder this produced a brine as it melted. The brine would drain 
from the ice bunkers along the track, this brine would be corrosive. 
Ocassionally the railroad would oil the rails of the east bound main because of 
the brine..
