Russ, Ken, John:
Thanks so much for the last thread. That answers all my questions. Now
I can sleep at night knowing that I can finish my waybills. Actually,
I think I will create a combination of scenarios to make things
interesting, including: 1) keeping some cars a few days and requiring
the crews to move them to make room for new loads, then re-spot; 2)
will now also have load in/empty out followed by empty in/load out a
few days later.
BTW, in regard to the switching fees for moving cars around after
delivery, your answers just gave me a good excuse for the scenario I
have been using for the CB&Q VO-1000 at my industrial park. Since I
model 1967/68 and all the VO-1000's were retired by 3/67, I decided
that the VO-1000 at my industrial area is actually a just retired ex-Q
VO-1000 owned by the industrial park that has not been repainted yet.
All those intraplant car moves by R&RW Metals and La Crosse Paper now
justify the industrial park having its own switcher!
That does generate one more question, though, that could make
operations more interesting. Right now a Q local simply drops a string
of cars off at the industrial park then picks up a string of outbounds
then goes home. All the car spotting is done by the park's switcher
(the VO-1000). Might the Q do the original spotting and pulling of
cars then the park's switcher do any intra-park car moving, or is my
current drop off a string of cars/pick up a string of cars scenario
more prototypical? The new scenario would allow me to have my Q local
crew do more work, then leave a local industrial park operator to do
miscellaneous car spotting around the park.
