Dave runs this list, but I'm pretty sure that he is in agreement with me on
this so I'll go ahead and post this...
Photos or files that are part of an online resource should never be copied and
reposted in our files or photos section...please just post a link to the
referenced objects. Photos that are part of a copyrighted source (book or
magazine) should not be posted, either. The only exception to this rule is if
the documents are out of print, and only the section being referenced should be
scanned. This can also apply to a website that is no longer around, but in ALL
cases please list the source of the documents or photos.
By the same token, photos or documents that are on the BRHS website should not
be reposted somewhere else, but just provide links to the website and location.
Many people on this list spend a lot of time and money researching and
purchasing historical documents, they are usually pretty generous about letting
others see it, as long as people don't just start taking it for granted and
distributing them however they want to...
