I bought one of these back in the 1990s.  I've done some detailing over the
years, but there's still a long ways to go to make it look prototypical.
The mechanism is delicate (I had one side rod come loose with just a minor
tap) and runs a little jerkily. From what I understand, Bowser makes a
replacement power train (anyway, saw one advertised a couple of years back),
but I haven't invested.  I installed a standard Digitrax decoder in the
tender (DH-121, if I recall correectly), and it worked fine.  I would
venture to say there's more than enough room for a sound decoder if one
wanted to go that far.
