Hello, Tom - Rock Island 2nd 76 derailed in downtown Depue, IL, in May of 1963,
IIRC. Both the Silvis and the Blue Island wreckers were called out to clear
the main line. The story goes that one of the locals was having his morning
beer in the tavern downtown when a RR car smashed thru the back wall. Do any
silver Swift & Co. meat reefers show in the slides? Phil Weibler

I know this is the CB&Q list, but there seems to be so many RI folks
out there as well I thought I'd ask this question:
I was sorting through some old Q slides I bought and found slides of a
major wreck on the Rock Island. I know it is RI since there is a RI
MOW truck in one slide and you can see a RI Alco RS in the background
coupled to one of the two Big Hooks.
Anyway, the slide was processed in July 1963. The wreck took out a
trackside building BIG TIME! There is a tri-level auto rack in the
building rubble! Anyone have any idea what wreck this might be as I
want to label the slides.
