Jeff Prince posted this to the RITSlist, so I thought I'd pass it along to
the CBQ list.

Dan: The 2:50 sticks pretty well in my memory...It's been long enuf ago
that it should be accurate...

As to Sammy...I was thinking that it was Russel Reeves?? who was the
engineer on No. 3 at Montgomery and that he was killed. Am I wrong...I'll
pull up the ICC report an check..I know that they didn't after about 1940 or
so give crew members names, but it tells which crew members were killed or
injured by occupation.

There was also Ben Germano..I think he was an engineer also, but didn't have
the "high wheeler" reputation that Sammy did. I can still hear those radio
conversations between Mel and Sammy as he sped east with 84 or 94 or 98 or
60 or some combination thereof.

I didn't know that Sam had been a RFE although, it seems that, at that time,
just about all the old heads had tried the RFE or Trainmaster gig...Few saw
the advantage of promotion to much longer hours, probably lower pay, and
continuing abuse from "management".

I'm looking forward to seeing some dispatcher and train operation
stories...That's my "first love".

Pete
