Group,
I am trying to obtain some facts reguarding the history of the Q in
the Mississippi River valley. After interviewing my grandfather for
a history of the 4th sub when he was an agent/operator for 35 years
on it, I figured I could type this info out for a paper in a history
class of mine in college. So my questions are as follows:
1. When was the CB&N begin construction? I think it was in 1883
but I could be wrong.
2. When was the CB&N taken over by the Q? I think it was in 1899
then finalized in 1903. I know that the Q had a large stake in the
CB&N since it started up.
3. When was Savanna yard closed and what were the daily operations
there?
4. What were the businesses served by the Q in Savanna? 4th sub
only--not south or east of town
Moving north on the subdivision, which train received and discharged
passengers at Chestnut Mountain? I think it was #25 according to
CBQ TT #3 from 1968 but I might have a number off.
In La Crosse, when were the tracks through town ripped out? My
grandfather's memory is a little rusty and he doesn't remember the
exact year.
Also in La Crosse, what were some of the businesses that were served
by the Q minus the Brewery, Trane, the lumber businesses around
Pepsi, the riverfront barge facilities and the businesses around the
North La Crosse yard?
Thank you for your help in ensuring I get an A on this paper,
Sam Weber
