The Wymore Story is good, but the book with the Kansas branches is "The High
Plains Route", an earlier work also by Richard Kistler, who I believe was
once a relief agent for the Q and the brother of noted California rail
photographer/author Stan Kistler. I think you'll find your answers in this
earlier book, which is very well done. It's out of print, but some
searching might turn one up.
