Bob - Where did you read this? Please advise. I've heard the same rumor over
the years, but have never seen any "factual proof" in writing.
Also, at least one ex-GTW 0-8-0 was equipped with a tender off a scrapped
O1-a, so maybe there's some confusion along these lines.
NWS&W did take several M-4 2-10-4 engines and cut the the rods off and pony
trucks out from under them so they could be switched behind the mill to serve
as stationary boilers. I have several photos of the 0-10-4s in that service.
Prior to the ex-GTW 0-8-0 engines, NWS&W used a number of ex-CB&Q G-5 0-6-0
engines to switch the steel mill. I have searched and searched over the years
for photos of these engines in service at NWS&W, but have never seen an image.
