Hello,
My name is Susan Fregeau. I am a resident of Westmont, Illinois. A few
weeks back I took my Brownie Troop to Westmont Park District's "Gregg
House." The Gregg House is a historic house in Westmont owned by a brick
maker named William L. Gregg back in 1872. I am a genealogy buff and
therefore inquired about this Mr. Gregg, only to be told they do not know
much about him. The Nancy Drew in me got the better of me and I begun a
search on Mr. Gregg. I have a found a William L. Gregg in the Chicago City
Directories 1872 - 1877 with offices in Chicago for a brick making company.
Two of those years they list his residence as Gregg Station. Did the
Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad have a stopped in what would be
present day Westmont, Illinois that was referred to as Gregg Station abt
1872-1876? The history of Westmont states that Gregg made bricks in
Westmont and shipped them to Chicago via the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy
Railroad. This could possibly tie my William L. Gregg of Chicago to the
William L. Gregg of Westmont.
Any information you may have regarding the a railroad stop in this area
during the period of 1872-1876 would be greatly appreciated. I would like
to provide our town with an accurate and well documented history if at all
possible.
