Ronald,
Idea sounds rather strange to me. I have no knowledge of
any freight car work being done at West Burlington for at
least the last 35 years and I doubt BNSF would have any
reason to change that.
BNSF's car repair facility is at Havelock NE but I doubt
that they would do any contract work. They have in the
past sold excess refurbished wheel sets but otherwise it's
all in house work.
Do not even know if the shop closing decision was initiated
by Fort Worth or Topeka. While Fort Worth would probably
have had to ratify it most shopping policy is still controlled
by Topeka.
Seems to me you were taking a subjective view and disregarding
the objective reality. Since there may be car repair facilities
at the former ammunition plant at Dayman IA perhaps your
geography was a little off. I do not know what company is located
there.

Subject: [CBQ] West Burlington Shops
Hearing that the BNSF is closing the West Burlington Shops "sure does
throw that old monkey wrench into the works." Now I have to set down
and rewrite my business plan. I wonder if I can sue Ft. Worth for the
time & energy, now lost?
One of the items that my company, Clover Township Industries, is
going to get into next year is the importing of ethanol (200 proof,
denatured) into California and sell it as E85 fuel. I was going to
have the tank cars purchased as kits and have the shop forces at West
Burlington assemble them & maintain them there too. FYI the
marshaling of said tank cars will happen at Galesburg.
Back to the old drawing board or in this case back to the Excel
spreadsheets & Word files.
Later,
Ron Peterson
