Go to www.mapquest.com and enter arenzville il to see it is the second place
listed south of Beardstown. The first 3 zoom levels will still display the
CB&Q trackage. I think the grade between Arenzville and Concord is a little
over 1 degree, John Mitchell could tell you the exact grade. Heavy trains
like iron ore headed for St Louis (mid-late 1950's) had to come up the hill
in 2 or 3 sections. Before that the Q used to keep a crew with a pusher
engine available to help trains up that grade.
