Hi Folks!

I have run across a unique and timely opportunity to save and start
restoring CB&Q 14073 (class NE-1 waycar). First a little history:

14073 was built in 1891 (as the 222) making this one of the oldest
pieces of equipment at IRM (I haven't verified it, but it could be the
2nd oldest). As I understand it the car was built at the Aurora shops.
IRM acquired the car in the early 1970's. Up until recently the car has
been used as a bunk house for some volunteers and outside of a coat of
paint (many years ago) hasn't had much done to it. A few of us have
started to take some steps to keep this car from literally melting away
before our eyes. We have patched up the roof and put tarps over some of
the more deteriorated portions of the car.

Pictures of the car from earlier this year can be found at:
http://www.nauer.org/gallery/CBQ-14073

Currently this car is stored outside... however, IRM is in the process
of building a new barn for equipment. We can put this car inside at a
cost of $4400, of which we have $2750 currently on hand. (Which leaves
$1650 to go, less than half) The catch is that the money needs to be
raised over the next month.

Myself and a small group of people have decided to take on the project
as it is an important piece of equipment for IRM (and as some from IRM
know my attitude of "all things Q are good" :) ). In order to start
work in earnest we need to get it inside.

If you can donate to this project, please send a check to:

Illinois Railway Museum
Post Office Box 427
7000 Olson Road
Union, Il 60180

Make your check payable to: Illinois Railway Museum with a note that the
money is for the CB&Q 14073 fund.

Thank you in advance to anyone that can help to get this car inside so
we can start working on it.

Scott Nauer
