Shari King: Somebody must be pulling your leg. The Official Guide of the
Railways issue of May 1961 shows Trains 42 and 43 on the Chicago, Burlington &
Quincy railroad between Kansas City, Edgemont, and Billings, with Pullman
sleeping cars Omaha to Alliance-Casper, offering roomettes, bedrooms, sections,
a
diner-lounge car Alliance to Billings, reclining chair coaches Kansas
City--Omaha--Billings, and a cafe-chair coach between Alliance and Casper. All
equipment was air-conditioned and steam heated, depending on the season. It
was
mostly of lightweight, streamlined, stainless steel construction. There were
no
wooden benches (not benchs) or pot belly stoves, unless you rode in a freight
train's caboose (commonly called "waycar").
I do not have access to any photographs of this train service.
Cordially, Jim Neubauer
