Doug,

40's is way too early for me but here are a few
ideas.

Minnesota-Iowa-Dakota Packing in Worthington MN.
Don't know if new like IBP but they did exist.
MIDX cars from Merchant's Dispatch with very nice
logo on them. Of course IBP had plants in both
Ft Dodge and Phelps but I think both were built
new. Think Phelps had a ramp right at the plant.
We used to send flats to Nishnabotna for their use.

Do not know the history of Glenwood Packing in
Glenwood IA but they were a fairly good shipper
during the 60's. Used MNX's only.

Bookey Packing in Des Moines bring back memories.
For some reason they had a vendetta against the IHB.
The route on the waybills included the statement;
"Do not give to the IHB". Naturally Galesburg
followed the blocking instructions just as they were
supposed to as I'm sure the other roads out of Des
Moines did. Made about as much of an impression on
the railroad as those "When empty return to" stencils
on the side of cars. Never could understand the
reasoning behind that waste of effort.

Sioux City Dressed beef should be the one in Sioux
City. Siouxland Dressed Beef was in West Fargo and
possibly in Sioux Falls. Later on Needham Packing
bought them all up but still kept the "Sioux City"
and "Siouxland" distinctions.

I know Hygrade bought up the Agar plant at Monmouth
but don't know about Iowa locations. The AGPX fleet
was also Merchant's Dispatch cars but I never saw
one in service, only stored at a shop. Monmouth was
using HFPX cars by 1965.

All I can think of at the moment,

Russ
