Although brochures, postcards, etc jointly marked Q/GN/NP or Q/GN
or Q/NP are relatively common (usually created by the Q of course!)
there are also at least 2 brochures I am aware of that were joint
Q/AT&SF: promoting trips from Chi to Cal out 1 RR & back the other.
So BN-SF may be a natural culmination (with Burlington still
the "first" name of course!).
Was @ a RR show in Des Moines today and a man complained of a train
set or model costing $6 extra due to UP licensing - I pointed to all
the Q stuff on my & Bob Stanage's table & said "there's a simple
solution - model the Q!". Others chimed in, fans of C&NW, RI, etc
and all agreed that if one were impartial, given the variety of the
prototype (territory covered, Zephyrs, red & black schemed diesels,
etc etc) and current offerings in HO especially, that being a
Burlington fan does indeed make a lot of sense (of course everyone on
this list knows that!)
And a little quiz question: apart fron the Zephyr-Rocket, what was
the real "tie" between the Rock & the Q? (I mention this as am
putting on a slide show for RITS meeting show in Cedar Falls next
month).
Lastly - ANYONE have (or know someone that does)photos of the Mt.
Ayr, IA depot or data when various remodeling of it was done? They
have a preservation group, just joined BRHS and are eager to learn (1
or 2 will come to spring meet in Oregon). Dave Lotz found a Corbin
pic in BRHS archives that was scanned & emailed to them; need more
though! Thanks! Gerald
