Mr. Keil: The Class 01a Mikado 2-8-2 locomotive was used in general freight
service, and of course achieved its greatest fame with the 4960, the fan trip
engine of the late fifties and early sixties. A string of heavyweight coaches
with an open door baggage car behind the engine would look just fine.
The Mikes were loaned out to the Bevier & Southern in Missouri (4963)
for hauling coal up to the Q interchange at Bevier, and 4960 was used
system-wide in fan trip service, even painted gold one time.
Come home safe from Iraq!
Cordially, Jim Neubauer
