As a total non-expert living in the UK could somebody please help me
with information on the distribution of oil and coal-fired steam
engines for the late-steam period (late-1940's/early 1950's). I'm
thinking of two locations - Denver and Kansas City. I'm planning to
buy a Challenger brass steamer but need guidance on coal or oil. I'm
looking for similar advice re-Rock island operations, so if any of
you are catholic in your tastes

Also CB&Q operations in Denver confuse me - would there have been
CB&Q, C&S and Fort Worth and Denver locomotives there during late
steam days?

I know this is probably basic stuff but on the assumption that there
are no silly questions, only silly answers, can you help?
Thanks
