About the stinginess of Burlington fans, I remain agnostic. Certainly not
true in my own case.

About the "frugality" of the prototype, I think the tight fist was only
part of the story. The other part is that management was pretty savvy in
deciding when they SHOULD spend major bucks on something -- be it as
mundane as upgrading track or as radical as purchasing those
first-generation diesels.

The one thing do I wish is that more of our fans (and list members) would
join BRHS. It is a terrific organization that supports all kinds of good
projects, including this discussion group. The cost of a year's membership
is about the same as one good-quality HO resin kit or RTR plastic model.
For the price of a single brass passenger car, you could be a member for a
decade. I cannot imagine a better investment for someone who is really
interested in this railroad.
