A pretty good source for details of the history of the QO&KC is a soft cover
book called "Hogback Road, A History Of The Quincy, Omaha & Kansas City
Railroad Company" by Ralph L. Cooper and Michael R. Johns. I think it was
self-published in 1983.
If you are in the Milan area Johns can probably be found either at his home in
Trenton or at the Chillicothe & Brunswick Railway depot in Chillicothe. The
library at Brookfield has a copy of the book. At the Wooden Nickel antique
store two miles west of Brookfield you will find a folio of photos taken along
that line in the 1970s-early 1980s. It was Burlington Northern then but still
pretty quaint. I believe the last train through Milan was in 1982.
I live at Brookfield. If you want to talk, call me at 660-258-3452. -- John A.
