Greetings List:
The Cumbres & Toltec hauled a tank car with sprinklers behind the tender
through the San Juan Mountains when the line finally got back in business after
the fire closure last summer. No doubt the flowers and weeds along the
right-of-way enjoyed the shower, but methinks the contraption served more to
douse
criticism of coalburners by US Forest Service.
For any of you thinking of a train ride over Cumbres Pass this summer, be
aware the season starts late and the schedule is abbreviated account lack of
FRA-certified locomotives.
