Hi,
You can't overcome the proportion of "flatteners" in Dullcote by adding
Glosscote. Start with a known mix ratio using Glosscote as the base and
adjust it drop by drop with Dullcote. I'll bet you will find it closer to
75% - 80%, and maybe higher, Glosscote to Dullcote mix ratio. This is the
ratio before adding any thinner. I've had excellent results from this point
with a 70:30/paint:thinner mix. But you can adjust this ratio the same way.
Start at a point and use it as the base line. Get your Glosscote:Dullcote
ratio first, then thin for the airbrush.
And even though there are lots of other ideas, if you use Testor's Airbrush
Thinner you will probably have lot better results. I've tested every
alternative. Nothing works as well. And don't use anything other than the
Lacquer Glosscote and flatten it with Lacquer Dullcote from the small spray
cans. Spray it into the plastic cover cap to recover the paint. Mix it by
ratio, then thin it.
Something else that will make it work better. Always decal over a gloss
finish. Always spray a gloss finish over the decal area. Then the finish
coat to whatever sheen you want.
You can get that silver to shine.
Good luck.

P.S. I just dug up another older formula for a non-yellowing clear, gloss
coat.
