There were often end doors so that cars could be loaded/unloaded from the
end. The would be inclined on racks, much like a truck auto hauler.

Automobile cars were 40' or 50' box cars with double doors, to facilitate
loading and unloading of automobiles. Many of the later ones were 50', all
the way up until they started using the huge auto-racks. Here are some

I daresay that it would have been great fun trying to get a 1951 Lincoln
