Ordinarily, steam engines, in road service did not
have the large rear headlights. When they were
converted so that could be used in yard service(as
well as road service, i.e. O-1A's), they received the
large rear headlights, required by federal law for
yard service. Many retained the small road engine
back-up light as well. The small lights however were
seldom used, since the big light worked better.
