I received a phone call from Stacy Williams, who is working for Oris PLC, an
architect firm that is working on the restoration of the Leon, Iowa Depot.
The depot is one of the standard brick, "county seat" depots that was built
in 1909. They would like to know what the original roofing material was
when it was built. Since the building is eligible to be placed on the
National Historic Register, they are required to faithfully and accurately
restore the building's exterior.
Bob Brown thinks the standard was red tile, but a newspaper article
describing the depot's construction says the roof was to be Bangor Slate.
Does anyone have a definitive answer?
