Bcc:
Cy;

Earlier this afternoon I sent a note to Wally off list. Didn't think there would be an audience interested in a fellow Minnesotan making "Q" connections. Looks like I was wrong.

I live just north of Rochester (Zumbrota), in a part of the state where there isn't much for model railroading. I have recently moved and haven't had the time or space to start a layout of my own - yet. I'm always looking for new model railroad folks and clubs in the area. Maybe you could let me know, off list, more about the Newport club. Am I correct in assuming that this is in the Newport (southeast metro) area?

Thanks!
Scott Stearns

wally: have it on good source that 2002 BRHS conv.
will be in st. paul(twin cities). plan to come, i
have lived here all my life and have been a modelerand
railfan since birth(i'll be 60 this year). got my
first loco(lionel #1688) at the ripe old age of 20
days, grandpa was a railroader and i was first
grandson.
the Q in minnesota did not have branch lines as they
did elsewhere. Q entered state at only ywo locations,
Winona and Hastings. Line to Winona crossed Miss.
River from Winona Jct. on a swing bridge with only a
couple miles of track total. and entered on another
bridge over St. Croix River at Prescott, WI to
Hastings, MN and shared a joint trackage agreement
with the Milwaukee Road into St. Paul for about 18
miles. from Daytons Bluff yard they took cars to and
from GN, NP, etc. with transfer runs. many photos of
these operations are in mike spoor and al holck books
of recent years.
look forward to meeting you next year here
in St. Paul. I'm a member of the Newport Model RR
club and we do operate w/dcc. will be glad to show
you around . cy
