After Mr. Don Jenks became head of the Missouri Pacific, the railroad began
an effort to discourage passenger rail travel over their road. All
Planetarium Dome Coaches were sold to the Illinois Central reportedly in June
of 1967. This included MP Dome Coaches #590 - 592 Budd, and
591,592,594,596,597 Pullman Standard. One PS Dome ended up the the scrap
pile in Sedalia, MO. This downgrade in service in conjunction with other
efforts, successfully resulted in loss in passenger revenue, and therefore
desired elimination of numerous passenger trains.
