Listers: Mike gave the correct date for passenger train renumbering, but the renumbering was systen wide. On 10-27-68 when Morning Zephyr 21 became 7, the CD became 63, and local train were numbered based upon Division. About a year earlier, in September (I do not have the exact date handy) 1967, the U. S. Post Office terminated RPO contracts on all railroads. Much mail was transferred to freight trains and that was the kiss of death for the privately operated passenger train. Ed DeRouin |
