Unofficial BNSF finding is that DW on 1270 "ran" the signal and is being
withheld from service, as we all know the refrain from the signal department
- "the signals functioned as intended". No correlation to the Mendota
Subdivision daily track bulletin # 55504 warning of "component failure
(capacitor) on a first generation electronic coded track module may cause a
yellow signal aspect to appear as an abnormally slow flashing yellow aspect."
AbnormaI (normal flash rate is 45-75 flashes per minute) flash sequence is
to be regarded as the most restrictive indication that signal can display
between MP 44.7 and MP 96.7. I thought these things "always functioned as
intended"! This TB was issued shortly after the FRA and NTSB were in town.
The 18 line (full page) TB only applies to the approach signals for Somonauk,
Earlville, the "Electrics" and the westbound approach for Zearing; all other
"intermediates" on the Main Line do not have "approach medium" aspects.
