Hi Scott,

I use Netscape 4.79. This is the way you set up message filters in the
Netscape:

1. Bring up the mail reading window.

2. Under the Edit selection at the top of the page, click. A drop down
menu will appear. Select Message Filters.

3. You will see a window pop up in front of you labeled Message Filters.
In Netscape, your incoming mail defaults to the Inbox, so this is the
folder you want to set up filters for.

4. To create a filter, click on New.

5. Another window will now appear. The cursor will be in a window called
Filter Name. We will create a filter that immediately tosses any message
that has Viagra in the subject into the Trash basket. So type in Viagra
as the filter name. Use the mouse or tab key to move to the next window.
In this case, I want to select button that says Match any of the
following. The line will look this:

subject of the message contains

In the blank box next to the word contains type the word Viagra.

So the line now look likeL

subject of the message contains Viagra

6. Next we need to tell Netscape would to do with the spam. We do this
next. Netscape normally moves incoming mail to the Inbox. Next to Inbox,
there is a little down arrow. Click on that. Select Trash. That line
should now look like:

Move to folder Trash

You could also just change the Move to Folder selection to Delete and it
will do the same thing.

7. Hit the OK button and you've created your filter!

I have 95 filters I've built up over the 2-3 years based on the SPAM I
have received. They are effective. Most days I see no SPAM or on a bad
day 2-3 messages. I receive 150-250 emails a day. So I consider that
pretty effective. I then add to my filters to eliminate the holes they
found.

I hope you find this helpful.

Bill
