Subject: Stout Recorder - CB& Q
Hi - my Great Great Uncle - Edward Stout - was a telegraph operator and
station agent for the CB&Q in Martinsburg, IA at the early part of the
1900's. E. Stout invented and patented a RR device he called the "Stout
Recorder". It was used by railroads to detect damage to freight shipments.
He sold it to the CB& Q, Rock Island, Milwaukee, Missouri Pacific, Canadian
Nationasl, etc. as well as railroads in Europe and other parts of the world.
After his death at 39 the business was kept in the family until 1950 when it
was sold. I am trying to find out if a "Stout recorder" still exists in a
museum or anywhere that I could see it. Any help you can give or
information relating to my Great Great Uncle would be helpful. thanks.
