Good afternoon from San Diego!

I plan on purchasing an undecorated E6 A/B set (with the dual headlights of course) and cutting up a passenger car for the fluting. It is going to take a lot of measuring and a lot of filing, but I figure it should pass the four foot test for me!

Regards,
John Lewis

I should not have used the "freight" and "passenger" designation, although
it is common.
The FTs had the open or creased pilot, as did the F-2s which were built to
break up the FT ABBA sets into FT AB+ F2A sets. The F2s looked like phase1
F3s but had the rating and electrical equipment of the FTs. The Q had no
phase1 F3s. The phase2 F3s are the "chicken wire" units, and they and all
other Fs on the Q came with the enclosed pilot (same as E-8/9s on the Q).
The Q had F3phase2, F3phase3 (same sides as F7 but with chicken wire instead
of Farr Air Grilles), F3phase4 or F5 (same appearance as F7 but with F3
dynamic hatch) and F7 early. The Cal Zephyr units were phase2 F3 but
without dynamic brakes (plain roof hatch). And of course the C&S and FW&D
each had a wreck rebuild F3 that ended up looking like an F9 outwardly, the
only such units on the Burlington System except for the EMD demonstrator
which spent much of its time on the Q. I may not have the phases exactly
correct but it seems each batch of units ordered was slightly different from
the previous order. (oh, and don't forget the B units that had "hostler"
windows added!!!
I would LOVE to do the E5 but I don't think we could sell enough to justify
the tooling, even in conjunction with an E3/6. It would be some years out
so who knows.
