Greetings and Happy New Year to All!
I was wondering how REA express cars and mail cars were routed on the 'Q to
branch lines. Say there was a town or even a small city which wasn't on
the Burlington main but had say, a feeder connection off the main to the
branch. Obviously the mainline passenger or mail train wouldn't divert on
to the feeder to drop the cars, so how did they get to the branch? Would
the cars be put on the head end of a local passenger train which DID serve
the branch somehow? Or would they be left at a junction point where the
branch left the main to be picked up by a waiting motor or train to swap
cars there at a designated time, or just pick them up for the branch whenever?
I hope I have stated my question clearly enough to be of help and
appreciate any replies on the subject.
