BNSF rotary problems (dated March 8) (Hi All), This was reported
yesterday
on the web.....Duane Koss.
For many Q fans a piece of history may be scrapped. Last week the
BNSF
called the Lincoln Neb. rotary which has spent most of the winter at
Willmar
MN, for plow duty. Running on the Willmar Sub. the blade bearing came
apart
causing catastrophic damage to the snow shoot and wiping off all blades
on
the plows front end. There are no plans to rebuild.
Q fans should remember this plow as CB&Q # 205028 Rebuilt at the
Denver Shops in 1949 to become America's first electric powered plow. The
BN
# was
972558.
>>>Subject: BN 972558 (CB&Q Rotary Plow) Mar 13 update from >>>Stephen
>>>Ragoss and Duane Koss
The fate of the Lincoln based rotary plow (BN 972558) is not good.
The
main bearing on the blade dropped causing the blades to shred the housing
and sending the blades approximately 150 to 200 yards in the adjoining
farmer's fields. The BNSF officials determined the repair costs would be
too
high to repair the unit and it will most likely be scrapped at Northtown.
