Their EMD switch engine made at least one trip per day to East
Dubuque, and usually two. One in the morning, and another in late
afternoon. They had a wooden waycar with them. Its construction
style reminded me of the CNW cupola waycars.

The Q came over to East Dubuque engine leading, headed through the
tunnel and pulled down to clear the signals in front of East
Cabin. Depending on which track they wished to work north of the
diamonds, they would shove north on either the n/b or s/b Q
tracks. North of the diamond, the Q had a center siding, the
south mainline switches to the center siding were power switches
controlled by the East Cabin operator. The Q "stub" usually did
his work in the storage tracks adjacent to the two Q main lines.
Sometimes they crossed from one mainline to the other via ducking
in the south end of the center siding and out again on the other
mainline so as to gain access to the other storage track. When
finished, they would trundle down to East Cabin again, and perform
a backup move to Dubuque with the caboose "leading" the charge
and the EMD switcher gently shoving on the rear of the cut.

On at least one occasion Q 82 stopped around 7:30 p.m., and had to
go over to Dubuque for carloads of bananas. They returned them to
East Dubuque, and positioned them for the 10:30 to 11:30 p.m. n/b
Q to pick up in East Dubuque. At that time, the Q did not allow
six axle engines across the bridge - e.g. SD24's among them. The
night they went across they had an SD24 in the consist and left it
in East Dubuque. Normally, the ICRR set out the bananas in East
Dubuque for pickup by the Q.

ca. 1962-1965.
