George,
The engine in question was S4 Hudson #3007. I was there the day she was
pulled of Quinsippi Island, and later visited the engine in Griggsville
after Mr. Wade finished the comsmetic restoration. She looked really good
then!
She was then sold, along with a number of Wade's cars, to an outfit in
Atlantic Iowa, where she was displayed out in the elements.
The operation in Atlantic never got going, so 3007 was sold at auction to
the Illinois Railroad Museum for approximately $70,000.
She was towed to Union, Illinois where she rests today. I last saw her in
August of 1997 at Union...she was coupled to Burlington Mikado #4963.
Hope this helps,
Regards,
John Lewis
