I repowered a Hallmark E-5 with P2k E-6 trucks and a Kato motor. I cut
curved holes in the floor to allow the gear towers on the P2k trucks to
swing and threaded the hole on the top of the trucks to accept a machine
screw. I used washers (top and bottom) to adjust the height of the floor so
it was the same as the P2k E-7/8/9's and ran the screw down through the
frame and washers to the trucks (make sure the screw isn't too long or it
will hit the gears in the trucks). The Kato motor that was used in the
Atlas/Kato GP-7 has the same hole spacing on the motor mounts as the two
holes in the floor of the Hallmark frame where the weight sits. I made drive
splines by combining the Kato and P2k shafts into one shaft with a Kato
connection on one end and a P2k on the other. I hard wired the trucks to the
motor and now have a Hallmark E-5 that runs perfectly with my P2k E-7's,
E-8's and E-9's (the drive is so quiet you can't even hear it run). I will
attempt the 'B' unit some day- but because of the ribs that run lengthwise
under the floor- it will take a little more work.
