I just remembered what was the shortest day I ever worked. One Saturday
morning off the brkmns extra list I was called for the Earlville Turn. Now
Saturday on this job was either a quit or a Hog Law tow in.It depended on
whether Cat was working or not. This particular Saturday I was also in the
process of moving my residence and had a host of relatives helping
me.Needless to say they were a little dismayed when I advised I was going to
work! I assured them I would be back in 2 hours or so.And you know what I
was! We left Eola w/in 15 minutes of being on duty with 6 cars. Cat was not
working,we shoved four flats onto trk one,2 gons onto 6,dropped the
W/c,grabbed it and arrived back at Eola in less than an hour.I was back with
the moving crew in less than 2 after leaving w/8 hrs and 31 minutes pay in my
pocket! That night at 9:15 P.M. the phone rang for the 10:45P.M. dinky dead
head to protect 181.Needless to say I marked off exhausted!
