Greetings Bob,

First of all, please accept my apology for the delay in responding to your
email. Somehow this and three others got "lost" after I returned from the
BRHS annual meet in Ft. Worth.

I searched the BRHS archives and my own personal collection of books, and
was not able to locate a photo of the Hannibal & St. Joseph Railroad's
locomotive, "Missouri."

I can, however, tell you that the Missouri was built in 1859 by the Mason
Locomotive Works and it was given H&StJ number 11. This information comes
from the Railway & Locomotive Historical Society's "Locomotives of The
Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad 1855-1904 - Part 2." By the time of
the second available locomotive roster on 1/1/1897, the Missouri was gone,
and the number 11 spot taken by a Class H, 2-6-0 Mogul.

I have also forwarded a copy of this email to the BRHSlist, where there are
300 CB&Q fans who may have more information for you.

Apologetically yours,
Dave Lotz

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
I would like to know if you could locate an good photo or negative of the
4-4-0 steam locomotive named the MISSOURI. This engine was one of the first
to run US Mail Service between from St. Joseph and West Quincy in July 1862
under the Hannibal & St Joseph Railroad which later became the Chicago,
Burlington & Quincy. The locomotive was built by William Mason and had 66"
or larger driving wheels. I have checked with the Patee House Museum which
has an modified old Baldwin 4-4-0 made up to look like the original Missouri
but has none of the old photos of the original. Let me know if you have
anything on this loco. If you need further details call me at
201-567-2023. Thanks, Bob Luce
