In response to a question asked about this engine in an earlier post.

CB&Q 3007 is currently resides at the Illinois Railway Museum. It was aquired from a bankrupt tourest operation in Burlington, IA who started a process to get it operational. It was auctioned off in 1995 with passenger cars and other assorted equipment. The bell and light of the engine were auctioned seperatly to get more money. A represenative from the IRM was sent down to bid $30,000 on the engine, it sold for $70,000. When he had returned to Union the IRM management was furious and had him fired from his posision. After they realised what they aquired they tracked him down, apoligized, and rehired him. The locomotive was towed behind the IRM's BN U30C 5383 latter that year with SP 2910. The locomotive is currently stored in barn 9(at least it was for the two years privious) with the CB&Q 4963. The locomotive is in relatively good shape from what I have seen of it. I'm not certain of the work the previous owners did with it if anything. I think this would be a good canidate for restoration to mainline service.(being on connected trackage and being in decent shape). I don't know what the IRM's plans for the engine are for sure, though I think they do want to cosmitcally restore it.
