Jerry,

Unfortunately, 5632 is alive in memory only. As the result of several,
confusing events it was finally cut up at a scrap yard near 87'th. St. and the
Dan Ryan Expressway many years ago. The cast steel water bottom of her tender
was used for quite some time as an "in yard" scrap mover. I don't know if this
remnant of this fine engine still exists today or not.

Karl

Subject: Fan Trip Book/Northern 5632

Hope you Burlington fans can help a Milwaukee Road fan who's always liked
the Burlington too. At a local train show I got a copy of a small book
called "Steam on Q" by Harold Edmondson, published by the Illini RR Club in
1960. It has photos of the Q's fan trip motive power from the first trip in
1955 up to 1960. Anybody know if this is a rare or common item? As for the
engines in the book I know Mikado 4960 has a new career on the Grand Canyon
RR, but whatever happened to O-5 class Northern 5632? Did legal problems
cause it to be scrapped, or am I confusing it with Dick Jensen's GTW Mikado
5629 (which I know for a fact was cut up)? Please let me know! I live in
Norfolk, VA and there aren't any Q fans here for me to ask. And I'd be
happy to assist any "closet" N&W fans in your ranks.
