I am a current BNSF employee that has worked the Beardstown Subdivision. I
have not worked the line during the period you ar modeling, but I might be
abble to help you. The St Louis line used to cut off at Concord where the
crrent line to Centralia begins. I believe it used to run southwest thru,
Chapin, Riggston, Winchester, Alsey, and then turned south to White Hall.
At this point the line, headed southeast to go thru Wrights and
Greenfield. At Greenfield the line worked south along US 67 to go thru
Rockbridge, Kemper, Medora, and Piasa, to Fosterburg, where the line moved
southwest to connect with the K-Line, near Alton. There is still evidence
of the old line north of Alton at the former wye that connected all legs
of the system. I am sure some of the older "heads" on the list will either
agree or fill us in on the right directions of the line. This line had
very severe grades and there were frequent instances of broken drawbars
due to improper train handling. The line was supposedly completely rebuilt
prior to abandonment although wasn't used very much after rebuilding. The
current St Louis route, is south of Concord to a interchange at walsh jct,
former CE&I St Louis line, now UP, that the MoPac got after the merger.
Motive power was probably what the former CB&Q was running at the time of
your modeled era. So in the 1960's era, GP9's, GP7's, SD9's and 7's. and
maybe some old F units thrown in would make a good motive power mix. Line
was and still is dispatched as "Dark territory", with DTC as the
controlling action. As fo ex GM&O interchange at White Hall, White Hall is
south of Roodhouse, and Roodhouse was the former Jct of the GM&o's Jack
lines north to Springfield and Chicago, and the Kansas City lines west to
KC. Also the Roodhouse line south to St Louis. Ther old heads at
Beardstown talked of several Local freights that ran in the area from
Beardstown to St Louis and then of course the thru trains. Hope I was
sonmewhat helpful to you. Tom Kaufman BNSF Chafee MO
