What is the expected time frame for the public showing of this episode
of "The American Experience"? I hope that PBS sells the VHS tape for
us.

I only rode one Zephyr between Macomb & Kewanee, IL when I was 4 years
old, so I don't have much in personal memory to help. However, Sunday
River Productions, Green Frog, Pentrex, & probably others have railfan
tapes on the CZ & Zephyrs. There was also that 1950s movie Cinerama
Holiday that featured the CZ and RKO's Silver Streak movie with the
Pioneer Zephyr.

Some of the equipment is also still around and on public display. The
Pioneer Zephyr in the Chicago Museum of Science & Industry, a CZ
dome/observation car at the Gold Coast RR Museum in Florida, the very
first vista dome car (Burlington's Silver Dome) at an Ohio RR museum,
Nebraska Zephyr at Illinois Railway Museum. There are still more cars
around. The Burlington Route Historical Society website
(www.burlingtonroute.com) has lists of the known CB&Q equipment with
location and a link to the California Zephyr Virtual Museum.

You probably already know all of the above. Hope it helps.

[BRHSlist] Diesel Passenger Trains on The American Experience
---------------------------------

Good Morning,
I wanted to make the society aware of a film that 51 Pegasi Pictures is
currently working on for PBS' The American Experience. Our story is the
meteoric rise of the diesel passenger train as seen through the eyes of
Ralph Budd. We are currently placing special emphasis on the Burlington
Zephyr and the California Zephyr as they both serve as obvious placeholders
for the story. I would be delighted to hear from those of you with
suggestions of what you consider essential to this story and any personal
experiences you may have regarding these two trains.
I am also seeking any original or unique footage of the passenger
experience on these or any of the Zephyr trains. We have a good collection
thus far, but most of the footage is from newsreels and PR firms. What I am
particularly looking for are those moments that capture the grandeur of
these trains, the sense of awe, inspired in a fan.
I hope to hear from some of you and we look forward to making a film that
shows the innovative genius of Ralph Budd and the consistent effort to
deliver quality service on the Burlington Route.
