Prior to the 1960 line change and new high level bridge, and prior to the 
removal of the Quincy Loop and the Lower Bay Bridge, was there a direct route 
from the Galesburg Main toward West Quincy that would have avoided the loop?  
I'm looking at some old maps that seem to suggest that there was no way that 
East-West trains could avoid the loop until some time in the late 40's or early 
50's.  I believe I read somewhere that the Lower Bay Bridge and loop was 
retired around 1953.  Carthage Jct. didn't appear in timetables until the late 
40's or early 50's.  Was Carthage Jct. where the direct connection from the 
Galesburg Main to West Quincy started?

Any insight would be appreciated.
