I always remember the advice an old engine
foreman,(Harry Allen) gave me. He said, "When you're
down between cars, coupling air and you hear a noise
down the train, don't think to yourself, 'Wonder, what
that is ?', Get out while you can"! He also told me to
"Keep a good handhold and watch where put your feet".
On a lighter note, he also said, "Don't water your
whiskey or cull your women"!
